Backup Agent is an application used to pair the CFA with a client for backup purposes.

The information below relates primarily to the 64-bit version of the Backup Agent for Windows.

## Install and pair with CFA automatically

notification_important Due to the specifics, this method can fail occasionally. If so, try once more, otherwise install and pair with CFA manually.

You can install the Backup Agent on a client and pair it with the CFA automatically in two ways:

• When adding a new client, select Push Backup Agent software.

• After the client was added, click Push Backup Agent in the General group.

## Install and pair with CFA manually

1. Add a client for backup.

notification_important Do not select Push Backup Agent software (see above).

wb_incandescent You can find the Backup Agent installation packages (32-bit and 64-bit) in the CFA Management Console (Clients > Software).

After the Backup Agent is installed, it gets into the Waiting for pairing state, and waits 24 hours to receive the settings (password and TCP port) from the CFA to establish connection.

3. In the CFA Management Console, go to Clients > Edit.

4. Click the newly added client, and then click Push Client Settings in the General group.

The Backup Agent on the client will receive the settings from the CFA and get into the Paired state.

## Change settings

You can change the password and TCP port used by the Backup Agent to communicate with the CFA.

1. In the CFA Management Console, go to Clients > Edit.

2. Click the desired client:

• In the General group, select Generate a new password.

• In the Client Networking group, specify a new TCP port.

info By default, Backup Agent communicates with the CFA via TCP port 9102. When changing the port, keep in mind that ports 9103, 9104, and 9105 are reserved for other purposes, thus we do not recommend using them to avoid possible conflicts.
3. Click Apply in the lower part of the page, and then click ACTIVATE CONFIGURATION in the upper-right part of the page.

Backup Agent on the target client will update the settings automatically.

## Pair with another CFA

1. On the client you want to pair with another CFA, run the Backup Agent.

2. Expand the settings, and then click Disconnect from Appliance.

3. In the open dialog box, click Disconnect.

Backup Agent will get into the Waiting for pairing state.

4. In the Management Console of another CFA, add a new client, and then push client settings.

## Run 32-bit and 64-bit versions simultaneously

wb_incandescent This is primarily required if you want to back up Microsoft Exchange mailboxes.
1. Add two clients for the same machine you want to back up.

2. Set TCP port of one of the newly added clients to 9101.

This will use the 32-bit version of the Backup Agent to pair with the CFA.

The other one will use 64-bit version of the Backup Agent to pair with the CFA via the default port 9102.

3. Set up the 32-bit version of the Backup Agent:

1. Install and run the 32-bit version of the Backup Agent on the client.

info You can find the configuration utility (RVXConfig.exe) for the 32-bit version of the Backup Agent in C:\Program Files(x86)\RVX-Backup.
2. Go to the Appliance tab.

3. In the Manual Configuration group, enter the password and port 9101 as specified in Step 2 above, and then click Apply.

You can verify that the client is paired with the CFA using the 32-bit version of the Backup Agent in the Management Console (Clients > Summary).

4. Set up the 64-bit version of the Backup Agent:

1. Install the 64-bit version of the Backup Agent on the client.

2. In the CFA Management Console, go to Clients > Edit.

3. Click the client, which will use the 64-bit version of the Backup Agent to pair with the CFA.

4. In the General group, click Push Client Settings.

You can verify that the client is paired with the CFA using both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Backup Agent in the Management Console (Clients > Summary).
