These instructions will help you install a version of the bacula agent without requiring the .NET framework.

Download Software:

To accomplish this we must [download](https://sourceforge.net/projects/bacula/files/Win32_64/){:target=\_blank}.

Installation:

This agent will have a different install path from other agents downloaded from the CFA. You may of course change the installation path but these instructions do not cover that topic. Please follow these instructions to complete the install and establish communication between the client and the CFA.

  1. Install the client. The executable that you downloaded should be installed on the clients you need to backup but do not want .NET installed on.
    • Run the Bacula installer.
    • Accept the user agreement.
    • Choose the Automatic installation type.
    • You will then be given an option to select the components to install, you need only the Client component.
    • Follow any other prompts to finish the install.
  2. Install the Configuration file. Download the client config file from the CFA.
    • Go to the Clients / Summary tab.
    • Right click anywhere on the row for your client, choose the option to Download Config.
    • Save to the location: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bacula.
  3. Edit the Configuration file. Modify the Working and Pid directories in the bacula-fd.conf file.
    • Change both the Working Directory and the Pid Directory to = "C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Application Data\\Bacula\\Work"
    • Save the file.
Run the agent:
  • The Services window may be the best tool for starting and stopping the bacula agent(service). The service is called "Bacula File Service."
  • Be sure to either turn off the Windows Firewall or allow an exception for bacula-fd.exe.
At this point, you should see a green check mark on the Clients / Summary tab for your client.
Note that the Clients / Summary tab will show the clients OS as "Linux". This is expected when using this agent version.
