Install and pair automatically

Important

If this method fails, try it once more. Otherwise, install and pair with the cloud failover appliance (CFA) manually.

You can install the backup agent on a client and pair it with the CFA automatically in two ways:

  • When adding a new client, select Push Backup Agent software.

  • After the client was added, click Push Backup Agent in the General group.

Install and pair manually

  1. Add a client for backup.

    Important

Don’t select Push Backup Agent software (see above).
  2. Download the backup agent installer package from the CFA Management Console (Settings > Tools > Downloads.)

  3. Run the downloaded installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest version of the backup agent.

After the backup agent is installed, it gets into the Waiting for pairing state, and waits 24 hours to receive the settings (password and TCP port) from the CFA to establish connection.

  4. In the CFA Management Console, go to Clients > Edit.

  5. Click the newly added client, and then click Push Client Settings in the General group.

The backup agent on the client will receive the settings from the CFA and get into the Paired state.

Silent installation

Backup agent installer supports the silent mode, that is when the installation runs in the background and doesn’t require user interaction.

To install the backup agent on a client silently:

  1. Open Command Prompt.

  2. Enter path-to-installer -quiet, where path-to-installer is the path to the backup agent installer.

    For example:

    C:\Users\Default\Downloads\backup-client-8.0.0.82.Win32.x64.exe -quiet

Change pairing

To pair the client with another CFA:

  1. On the client you want to pair, run the backup agent.

  2. Expand settings, and then click Disconnect from Appliance.

  3. In the open dialog box, click Disconnect.

The backup agent will get into the Waiting for pairing state.

  4. In the Management Console of the CFA you want to pair with, add a new client, and then push client settings.

Run 32-bit and 64-bit versions on one system

  1. Add two clients for the same machine you want to back up.

  2. In the CFA Management Console, go to Clients > Edit.

    1. Select one of the newly added clients.

    2. In the Client Networking group, set the TCP port to 9101.

    3. Click Apply to save changes.

    4. Click Activate configuration so the changes take effect.

This client will use the 32-bit version of the backup agent to pair with the CFA.

The other one will use the 64-bit version of the backup agent to pair with the CFA using the default port 9102.

  3. Set up the 32-bit version of the backup agent:

    1. Install and run the 32-bit version of the backup agent on the client with TCP port 9102.

      Note

You can find the configuration utility (RVXConfig.exe) for the 32-bit version of the backup agent in C:\Program Files (x86)\RVX-Backup.
    2. On the Appliance tab, select Manually Assign Appliance Information, enter the port 9101, and then click Apply.

  4. In the CFA Management Console:

    1. Go to Clients > Edit.

    2. Select the client where you installed the 32-bit backup agent.

    3. In the General group, click Push Client Settings.

It takes a few minutes for the backup agent and the CFA to connect.

You can verify that the client is paired with the CFA using the 32-bit version of the backup agent in the CFA Management Console > Clients > Summary.

  5. Set up the 64-bit version of the backup agent:

    1. Install the 64-bit version of the backup agent on another newly added client.

    2. In the CFA Management Console, go to Clients > Edit.

    3. Select the client where you installed the 64-bit backup agent.

    4. In the General group, click Push Client Settings.

It takes a few minutes for the backup agent and the CFA to connect.

You can verify that the client is paired with the CFA using both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the backup agent in the CFA Management Console (Clients > Summary.)
