Step 1. Upload image to Nutanix Prism

  1. Log in to the Nutanix Prism Web Console for your AHV cluster.

  2. Click the gear icon in the top right corner, and then click Image Configuration.

  3. In the Image Configuration window, click Upload Image.

  4. In the Upload Image window, fill out the following information:

    Name Name of the image
    Image Type Disk
    Storage Container Local storage container
    Image Source Click Upload and browse for the unzipped image
  5. Click Save and wait for the upload to complete.

Step 2. Create a new virtual machine

  1. Go to the VM page of the Nutanix Prism Web Console.

  2. Click Create VM.

  3. Fill out the general configuration:

    Name Provide a meaningful name
    Timezone change if incorrect
  4. Provide compute details:

    vCPUs 4 is recommended, 2 is a minimum
    Number of cores Leave at 1
    RAM 16 GB is recommended
  5. Configure the disks for the VM:

    1. Remove the CD-ROM drive.

    2. Click Add New Disk (this will be the operating system disk using the uploaded image), and fill out the following:

      Type Disk
      Operation Clone from Image Service
      Bus Type SCSI
      Image The image uploaded earlier
    3. Click Add.

    4. Click Add New Disk (this will be the catalog disk), and fill out the following:

      Type Disk
      Operation Allocate on Storage Container
      Bus Type SCSI
      Storage Container Your local storage container
      Size 64 GB is recommended
    5. Click Add.

    6. Click Add New Disk (this will be the storage disk and the largest on the VM), and fill out the following:

      Type Disk
      Operation Allocate on Storage Container
      Bus Type SCSI
      Storage Container Your local storage container
      Size 500 GB—2 TB is recommended
    7. Click Add.

    8. If you would like to add additional storage disks, this would be the best time to do so.

  6. Add a network adapter:

    1. Click Add New NIC.

    2. Select the appropriate VLAN.

    3. Click Save.

  7. Click Save in the Create VM dialog, and wait for the VM to create.

Step 3. Power on and connect to the appliance

  1. Go to the VM page on the Nutanix Prism Web Console.

  2. Click the Table subcategory.

  3. Select the row for the VM you created previously.

  4. Click Power on.

  5. Go to the Console tab:

    You’ll see a gray and blue screen showing the power on progress.

    If you look at the Enter Login Credentials section, you’ll find the IP address for your vCFA.

    The System Messages section will show the boot progress, and you’re ready to connect when it says System is ready, but needs to be setup.

  6. Go to the vCFA Management Console at that IP in your browser, and log in using the default credentials: username — admin, password — rvxd2d2d.

Step 4. Provision the appliance

  1. After the first login, you’ll see the provisioning screen.

  2. In the Available Disks group, select the larger disk.

  3. Click the right arrow (>>) next to the list you want to assign that disk to.

    If you’ve added more disks and want to add them to the storage, repeat this step.

  4. In the Available Disks group, select the remaining smaller disk.

  5. Click the right arrow (>>) next to the list you want to assign that disk to.

  6. Click Next.

  7. You’ll now see a summary screen reflecting the choices you made. Click Finish to save changes.

    The vCFA will reboot and provision.

  8. Complete the Quick Start Wizard to initially configure the vCFA and start using it.
